
Sakura, Cherry Blossom is the National Flower of Japan. It is only natural to say that it is a symbol of spring in Japan. Kawazu-zakura is well known as bright pink cherry blossom blooming in the beginning of February. The Kawazu-zakura festival is held between February and March, which many people including tourists from abroad, come to enjoy. 80% of the cherry blossoms in Japan is the Someiyoshino cherry blossom, which has light pink color petals.
It is said that Hanami has started in the Heian era. The aristocrat people have made haiku, and enjoyed food and sake. It had also started to spread among ordinary people to enjoy sake and food under the cherry trees in Edo era.
Today, there are many festivals and events to enjoy the cherry trees everywhere in Japan. Scenery created by cherry blossoms is one of the best sights of Japan.
